Round Table takes Christmas toMpemba Reformatory Centre

Blantyre Round Table Number 20 celebrated early Christmas with children at Mpemba Reformatory Centre in Blantyre on Saturday.

As part of the tablers’ traditional festive season celebration, they donated assorted items, including groceries and sanitary materials worth K2.4 million and delivered messages of hope to the children.

Speaking during the celebration, Blantyre Round Table chairperson Kazione Kulisewa said supporting children was one of their core values.

He said: “We have been supporting the children for the past 63 years. We try our best to encourage them in any way possible so that they forget their past and focus on a brighter future.

“Our group raised funds and also received support from Rab Processors Ltd, Quarry Kings, SS Rent a Car, Kips, Aqua Pure and Suncrest Creameries.”

In his remarks, Mpemba Reformatory Centre principal Mike Maulidi thanked the tablers for the timely gesture.

“However, we urge other well-wishers to support us refurbish the hostels which have no window panes. Other areas that need maintenance are the dining hall, administration offices and staff houses,” he said.

The day started with a bus ride from the centre to Chichiri Shopping Centre where the children enjoyed ice cream courtesy of Kips Restaurant.

After the bus trip, the children were treated to a luncheon organised by the tablers at the institution.

The day ended with a football match between Blantyre Round Table and the children
